'fashion fades, only style remains'

A favourite quote of mine by one of the most influential fashion icons, Coco Chanel. How true this is!

This is something I always remember when I am in a shop looking at high fashion. Can you remember the fashion for florescent green and pink legwarmers and finger less gloves? Even though I had the gloves (I never felt the love for the legwarmers myself) when I look back I think why! They never looked good, did they!

You end up with lots of items of clothing that don't go with other pieces in your closet and within a few weeks wouldn't be seen out in anymore!

That's why I love the fact that Coco Chanel designed timeless, simple and elegant classics that can be worn over and over. Who doesn't own a little black dress in their wardrobe, for instance! Her colour palette for beige, black, white and navy blue are our basic closet staples.

The advice I've taken from Coco Chanel is to find out what your style is, own it and be true to yourself. When you wear what you want, you show who you are and you definitely feel more confident when you wear what works for you.

Have a trademark. I like to pair a white shirt with a boyfriend blazer with black trousers and finish the look with a layer of pearls and heels for a very Coco feel.

Style has staying power.

I can't do a post about simple, elegant style without mentioning Audrey Hepburn. Classic, chic and beautiful.

Happy Birthday Audrey.
Have a lovely day.

  2. Great quote! Lately I've let my style fall by the wayside as a slightly overwhelmed first time mom... but now that I've conquered the babyweight and lost it all, I think I should reward myself by buying some nice new clothes and finding my new style as a mom.

    1. I can remember living under a trench coat for quite a long time after my girls were born as it took me a while to lose the baby weight and I was so self conscious!

You definitely need to treat yourself. I'm a big lover of shoes, that is my weakness whenever I'm out shopping!

      Enjoy your day

  3. Style over trendy any day. Style, is classy and that never goes out of style. I'm very anti trendy. AND, some people really shouldn't try it, just because someone says it's in, doesn't mean it looks good on you. Like skinny jeans.....egads onlyu 1 out of 400 people look good in them, and yet people keep buying them. Same thing with hip huggers vs slacks that actually fit your wasite...99 people out of 100 look better with things that fit the waste. I hate shopping because it's hard to find things that are nice vs stupid and trendy.

  4. One thing I am particular about buying is jeans. I find I need a whole day dedicated to trying lots of different pairs to find the right fit and length.

  10. I have a feeling you'll enjoy the fashion week posts I just put up. My philosophy for sitting front row was - let the fashion remain on the runway and the style in the audience! xoxox
