a memory I would love to relive

The Blogtember prompt for today is 'a memory you would love to relive.'

People who know me know how much I love musicals, but I didn't see my first West End musical until three years ago. I can't believe I left it so long! My daughter shares my passion for musicals too! We can sit for hours on a cold, rainy day watching them. We have our favourites which are The Sound of Music, Calamity Jane, Mary Poppins and The Lion King.

It was coming up to my daughter's eighteen birthday and we wanted to do something extra special for her. I knew how much she wanted to see Les Miserables in the West End, so I booked us a hotel and tickets to see it. She was so excited when I told her; her face was a picture!

On arriving in London we were like giggly girls all day waiting for the big event. We dressed up and went for a lovely meal beforehand. The theatre was stunning inside; breathtaking. I made sure we had tissues handy because I knew there would be tears!

I will never forget my daughter's face when the music started. She was mesmerised. Of course it wasn't long before I started with the tears! It was an emotional rollercoaster. I knew it would be good but it was better than I could ever have imagined.

She has always wanted to see this show and I am so glad I got to share this experience with her. I will never forget it! We have since been to see the film version, bought the DVD, got the CD and cried again! Thank you Amber for being in love with musicals just as much as me, so we can share this love together.

Have you got a memory you would love to relive?

Happy Tuesday everyone.

  1. My first musical was 'Cats', donkeys years ago now, we had a school trip to London for it, amazing :)

A memory I would love to relive would be sitting at Cafe Florrian in Venice with posh afternoon tea watching the world go by. My best friend & I at the time got cheap flights and used saved-for-holiday money on delicious food and Murano glass jewellery instead!

    1. I've not seen Cats but I can imagine how good it was. I would join you in Venice! I love it there, it's definitely one of the loveliest places I have ever been and you can't beat Italian food. :-)

  2. Excluding the births of my children it would have to be running in the New York marathon in 2002.

  4. Lovely memory. I want to take me daughter to see West Side Story. She watched Disney's Teen Beach Music and now loves watching musicals. We watched West Side Story together. I forgot how sad the ending was.

    1. Thanks so much Mary. I love the music and dancing in West Side Story. Sometimes I just put the music of it on and dance around the house to it! But you are right, it's far too sad at the end. I always have the tissues handy! :-)

  5. This sounds like something your daughter and you will always treasure. :) Mine is only four right now, but I'm looking forward to making some amazing memories with her in the coming years, too. One of the best ones I have so far is of a mini-trip we took to a city nearby. It was the whole family, and we just had so much fun.

    1. I brought my girls up on musicals, we always had soundtracks of them on when they were little. So we all know the words to them off by heart! It sounds like you have lots of lovely memories from your mini-trip, we have just had one too! Good times to treasure.
      Have a lovely day :-)

  6. Oh, how I love Les Mis! My aunt took me to see it in Dublin when I was 14 and I fell in love instantly! I've always loved musicals, and was lucky enough to be cast in some leading roles in our school productions. Now, I'm on the other end of it all as a music teacher! We did Grease last year and it was so much fun, so I'd love to relive those memories :)

The one that's on my list that I'm dying to see is Wicked - especially since I have to teach two of the songs as set works for the GCSE course! If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend Chicago - such clever use of the stage and band and really catchy songs :)

  7. I would love to see Wicked too! That's on my bucket list! How lovely to be able to do school productions and sing all those songs. If you ever need anyone to sing songs from 'The Sound of Music' I'm your woman! If Chicago has catchy songs I'm there! I love a good singsong!
Enjoy the rest of your day :-)
