road trip part two

Our second day started off with a super breakfast (fresh fruit, eggs benedict and toast!) I have to say it was one of the loveliest we have ever had. We then set off on the next part of our road trip. We stopped off at a beautiful village called Thornton Dale. If there is such a thing as English country heaven, we found it. The picture above shows my dream cottage, I am in love with anything that has a thatched roof. Imagine living at the side of a stream with ducks milling about!

Unfortunately it was raining, so we didn't get to see it at its best but we will be back when it's better weather.

We then made our way to a beautiful place called Fountains Abbey. It was a very misty day but it meant not many people were there which made it so peaceful. When it is nice weather, thousands of people descend here.

I have to say it was absolutely magical. I could have spent longer than a day wandering round this beautiful place. The abbey dates back to the 12th century but was pulled down by Henry VIII. It is so big and in the mist looked quite daunting. Here are a few photos of our day. Enjoy!

Looking at these photos is bringing lovely memories back, I hope you liked them too.

    1. Thanks, Chelsea. I think we hit lucky that day because, although it wasn't sunny, the mist made the ruins look so atmospheric and the wildflowers were gorgeous. :-)

  2. Oh wow, so super cool! I love looking at ruins and stuff, we just don't have anything that cool in America.

    1. Thanks Sarah, we are lucky that we have lots of historical buildings and ruins around us. We have a castle and old hall just a few miles away. :) Have a good weekend.

  7. I love these photos, so stunning and they bring back so many memories, I went here as a child and thought it was a magical place. My Dad is from the North of England and we flew from South Africa to see our English relatives and then did a lot of touring around and we stopped here. What a gorgeous place to visit, hoping to visit the UK soon :) Jen xx

    1. It seemed like a magical place to me too, so serene and beautiful. As the weather wasn't great, there were hardly any people about so we practically had the place to ourselves which made it very special. I'm glad you like the photos, xx
